Wyman Catlege

Wyman Catlege, 93 year old Shawnee, Oklahoma resident, passed from this life on Monday, October 17, 2016 at Integris Baptist Hospital in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.   He was born March 31, 1923 in Trousdale, Oklahoma to parents Oscar Overton Catlege and Ruth Naomi (Hudson) Catlege. Wyman went on to serve our Country by serving in the United States Navy where he earned the Victory Medal, the American Area Campaign Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Area Campaign Medal (11 Stars), and the Philippine Liberation Campaign Ribbon (2 Stars) and had earned the rank of Radarman Third Class. On March 1, 1946 Wyman married his high school sweetheart, the love of his life, Norma Jean Gregson in McAlester, Oklahoma.  The couple would eventually make their home in Macomb.  Wyman worked as a welder at Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma City until his retirement in 1973. He leaves to cherish his memories, four daughters, Sharon Catlege of Denton, Texas, Donna Sue Johnson of Shawnee, Oklahoma, Marjorie Atteberry of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Patti Catlege of Midwest City, Oklahoma; three brothers, Darrel Catlege of Norman, Oklahoma, Daymon Catlege and his wife Norma Jo of Norman, Oklahoma, Jimmie Catlege and his wife Lajuana of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; nine grandchildren, Holly Newell, Wendy Ogle, Michael Johnson, Matthew Johnson, Rachel Morales, Justin Gilbreath, Sherry Stevens, Naomi Gilbreath, and Travis Gilbreath; 20 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; and a host of other family and dear friends. Wyman was preceded in death by his parents Ruth Naomi and Oscar Catlege, by his wife of 65 years, Norma Jean (Gregson) Catlege who died May 30, 2011, by two brothers, Kenneth Catlege, Truman Catlege, and by three sisters, Hazel Christenson, Mildred White, and Lorene Mitchell. Funeral services with Military Honors are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Thursday, October 20, 2016 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole, Oklahoma with Wyman’s brother, Jimmie R. Catlege officiating the service.  Military Honors will be provided by the United States Navy.  Interment will follow at Wanette Cemetery in Wanette, Oklahoma. Casket Bearers will be: Jimmy Edward Catlege, Joel Randall Catlege, Travis Gilbreath, Reece Hernandez, Andrew Newell, and Levi Newell. Honorary Bearers will be: Matthew Johnson, Ethan Newell, Michael Johnson, Darrel Catlege, Daymon Catlege, and Jimmie Catlege.
