Winston “Ed” Edward Ice, 78, Seminole resident died Wednesday, March 23, 2011 at Colonial Estates Nursing Home in Shawnee, Oklahoma. Winston was born October 10, 1932 in Vinson, Oklahoma to Ray and Rosa Pearl (Ray) Ice. Ed grew up in San Jose, California and graduated from Campbell High School. He served four years in the United States Navy as an electronics technician. He attended college at Milwaukee School of Engineering. Ed was a brilliant engineer and was instrumental in designing and developing IBM’s Winchester Disc Drive, IBM’s largest disc drive. Ed received many awards in his engineering career. Ed came to Seminole eleven years ago from San Jose, California after his retirement. His wife Betty Ice of Seminole, Oklahoma, survives Ed. His children Ronald Ice of Livermore, California and Christina Ice of Concord, California, Sheri and Jeffrey Harnais both of Seminole, Oklahoma also survives him. His granddaughter Jacie Harnais of Claremore, Oklahoma whom he loved as much as a person can love, also survives him. Ed donated his body to research for Alzheimer’s disease, in hopes he could help find a cure. A Memorial service is planned for a later date.
