William Earl “Bill” Saunders, age 85 and a long-time resident of Konawa, Oklahoma, passed away from this life Sunday, June 4, 2017 at Mercy Hospital of Ada, Oklahoma. Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 7, 2017 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Konawa. Burial will follow with military honors at Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery in Shawnee, Oklahoma. Rev. Mitch Williams will officiate. Bill was born November 15, 1931 in Shawnee, Oklahoma, to Lucian Strother Saunders and Adella May (Anderson) Saunders. After attending college, he became a horse trainer. He worked for Barbara and Richard Chase for many years taking care of their race horses. Everyone knew of his love for horses and his expertise in caring for them. Bill also honorably served in the U.S. Army as a Tech Sergeant from October 1952 until September 1954. He is survived by one niece, Nancy Brady and husband, Darryll; one nephew, Loyd Hines and wife, Carolyn; and numerous great nieces and great nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Adella May and Lucian Strother Saunders and nine siblings.
