Eugene Brooks, age 84 and a long-time resident of Asher, passed away on Friday, November 14, 2008, at the Oklahoma Veteran?s Center in Norman, Oklahoma.rnrnServices are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 18th at Avoca Church of Christ in Asher, Oklahoma, under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home of Konawa. Burial will follow at the Wanette Cemetery. D.W. ?Red? Barnes will officiate. Pallbearers are Dewey Goodin, Deb Goodin, Phillip Brothers, Brad Johnson, Ed Stark, Scot Brooks, and Andrew Brooks.rnrnBill was born on October 28, 1924, to James L. Brooks and Bertha (Davis) Brooks in Asher, Oklahoma. He married Lena Scarborough on May 1, 1948, in Sacramento, California. He was a mechanic and a member of the Avoca Church of Christ in Asher, a member of the Masonic Lodge, and a member of the VFW. He also enjoyed horseback riding.rnrnHe is survived by his wife, Lena Brooks of Tucson, Arizona; one son, Jim Brooks of Long Island, New York; one daughter, Julie Brooks of Tucson, Arizona; three sisters, Ophelia Grosz of Moreno Valley, California, Juanell Zandona of Santa Barbara, California, and Nelda Brooks, of Asher, Oklahoma; two grandchildren, Andrew and Siobhan; and one great grandchild, Jonathan.rnrnHe was preceded in death by his parents, James and Bertha Brooks; one daughter, Jeanne Brooks; and three brothers, Earl, Buck and Kent Brooks.rn Funeral Information: November 17, 2008, 2:00 AM
