Willa VanMeter, 94 year-old longtime Seminole and Pottawatomie County resident passed from this life Wednesday, November 19, 2008 at Solara Hospital in Shawnee, Oklahoma. She was born June 6, 1914 in Maud, Oklahoma to parents Beedie (Brown) Cherry and Ezra Louis Cherry.rnrnWilla married Gravis Eugene ?Gene? VanMeter on December 30, 1938 in Burkburnett, Texas he preceded her in death in 1965. She was of the Baptist faith and had worked at the Maud Nursing Home until her retirement.rnrnSurvivors include Geneva and Burl Davis of Macomb, Oklahoma; one sister-in-law, Iva Cherry of Tuttle, Oklahoma; one nephew, James Mapes of El Reno, Oklahoma; and a host of great nieces, nephews and other family.rnrnWilla is preceded in death by her parents; husband Gene VanMeter (1965); one son, Geary Eugene ?Tick? VanMeter (1984); two brothers, Otis Lee Cherry (1973) and Clarence N. Cherry (1990); and by one sister, Essie Fern Cherry (1993).rnrnGraveside services are scheduled for 3:00 p.m., Friday, November 21, 2008 at Cummings Cemetery in Maud, Oklahoma. Rev.
