Weldon Smith

Weldon LeRoy Smith, 77 year-old, Seminole resident passed from this life on Father’s Day, Sunday, June 19, 2011 at his home in Seminole.  He was born November 20, 1933 in Ryal, Oklahoma to parents Walter Smith and Melvina (Bailey) Smith. Weldon married JoAnn (Turpen) Smith on August 5, 1953 in Roswell, New Mexico. Weldon was a plumbing contractor where he owned and operated Smitty’s Plumbing in Seminole for several years.  He was also a member of the Seminole Church of Christ. He is also a former teamster member. Weldon was a true patriarch of his family.  He loved spending time with his wife, children and grandchildren.  He will be truly missed by all who knew him. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, JoAnn Smith of the home; three sons, Dale Smith, Donald Smith and Doyle Smith all of Seminole, Oklahoma; one brother and sister-in-law, G.C. and Donna Smith of Hampstead, Maryland; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Hazel Williams of Henryetta, Oklahoma, Mildred and Lonnie Wood of Ft. Sumter, New Mexico; 11 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and a host of other family and dear friends. Weldon is preceded in death by, one daughter who died when she was 15 years old in 1970, Debra Kay Smith; five brothers, Willard, Austin, Lindel, George and Eugene Smith; and by one sister, Helen. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Thursday, June 23, 2011 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole, with Chris Stinnett officiating the service.  Interment will follow at Little Cemetery. Casket Bearers will be: Weldon A. Smith, Tyler Holt, Austin Grace, Ryan Sheppard, Carl Smith and Wayne Pratt. Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.
