Wanda Dacus Turbeville, 87, a long-time former resident of Seminole, died of natural causes on Wednesday, May 16, 2012 in Athens, Georgia. Wanda was always proud to call Seminole "home." She graduated from Seminole High School, was a member of the Seminole chapter of Beta Sigma Phi professional women’s sorority, and was a member of First United Methodist Church. Before retiring, Turbeville enjoyed a long career in the newspaper business working at the Seminole Producer, St. Petersburg (FL) Times and Palm Beach Post Times as a proof reader. She particularly enjoyed fishing on Lake Okeechobee and activities with family and friends always kept a smile on her face. Turbeville, the former Wanda Jean Parker was born May 15, 1925 in Ravia, Oklahoma, the daughter of Estelle and Elsie Lee Parker. Preceding Wanda in death were her father and mother; husbands Doyan S. Dacus and Ray C. Turbeville- both former residents of Seminole; a son Donald Doyan Dacus, a daughter Susie Dacus Altman and a brother Junior Parker and a sister Mary Wood. She is survived by two grandaughters, Ashley S. O'Neill of Marietta, Georgia; Alyson Griggs of Madison, Georgia and a great granddaughter Adyson Taylor Griggs and a former son-in-law, Ramsesy Altman of Eatonton, Georgia. " Nana" as she was known to her family was a kind, generous and sweet woman, who was a friend to so many and cared for her friends and family with all of her heart. She will be truly missed! A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, May 21 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole, Oklahoma with Rev. Gary Wilburn officiating. Burial will take place at Maple Grove Cemetery, Seminole, Oklahoma. Services under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home of Seminole, Oklahoma.
