Virginia "Ginger" Tolbert

August 29, 1924 — September 25, 2014

Virginia “Ginger” C. (Julian) Tolbert, 90 year old Del City resident and former Seminole resident, quietly passed from this life on Thursday, September 25, 2014 at her home in Del City, Oklahoma.  She was born August 29, 1924 in Sapulpa, Oklahoma to parents Dorse and May Julian. Virginia married Lee Tolbert in 1939 in Seminole, Oklahoma and sadly he preceded her in death on July 25, 2014 after seventy four years of marriage. Lee served in the United States Army during World War II and Virginia followed and adapted to whatever life threw at them.  Over the years she worked several jobs.  During the war she worked as a riveter on warplanes and later she worked in a fish cannery and joked that although her clothes smelled strongly, the money smelled good.  She was a talented seamstress and excelled in all forms of needlework bringing in more earnings by altering uniforms for servicemen.  Virginia’s love of fabrics and needlecraft inspired her all of her life and she made clothing for herself and all of her family.  She also made home décor items, purses and wonderful quilts.  She was always glad to pass this skill to any who was willing to learn.  She even taught sewing classes in Lawton, Oklahoma. Later in life Virginia cared for her parents and Lee’s parents in her home and shared her home with many family members as the need arose. She leaves to cherish her memory two daughters, Jenny Lee Tolbert and Nancy Harned.  Her brother, Jack Julian along with his family.  Her grandson, Stephen Harned and his family.  She is also survived by many of Lee’s family who over the years truly became her own. Virginia is preceded in death by both of her parents, Dorse and May Julian. As sweet and quirky as Virginia was, her husband Lee who called her, “His Ginger,” passed from this life on July 25, 2014 just two months to the day before they were reunited again.  She is now with her sweetheart forever. Her children arise and call her blessed: Her husband also and he praises her. Memorial services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 4, 2013 at Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.  Rev. Carl Whitfield will officiate the service. Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma. Funeral Information: October 4, 2014, 2:00 PM Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel - Seminole located at 1001 N. Milt Phillips Ave., Seminole, OK 74868
