Virginia Self

November 14, 1952 — April 18, 2013

Virginia Diane Self, longtime Earlsboro resident, entered eternal life April 18, 2013 at the age of 60. Virginia was born November 14, 1952 in Arizona to Vernon and Mary (Vickery) Mehring.  She spent most of her life in California; moving to Oklahoma City when she was 14 years old.  She graduated from Capital Hill High School in Oklahoma City then went on to work and retired from Tinker Air Force Base. Some of Virginia’s favorite pastimes were boating, being at the lake, also floating the river.  She loved softball and played professionally on the state level in her younger years.  She was an OSU fan and dearly loved being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and took them to the lake as often as possible.  Virginia was a great mother. Virginia leaves to cherish her memory three sons, Darrell Mehring of Earlsboro, Oklahoma, Elton Kelsay of Earlsboro, Oklahoma and David Fraizer of Shawnee, Oklahoma; two daughters, Virginia Cansler of Tecumseh, Oklahoma, Rhonda Kelsay of Earlsboro, Oklahoma; one brother, Rodney D. Mehring of Earlsboro, Oklahoma; one sister, Terry Mehring of Oklahoma City; 13 grandchildren, Darrell Mehring II, Kelsay Maupin, Tobie Maupin, Austin Maupin, Connor Kelsay, Austin Sanders, Chance Mehring, Lauren Thelkeld, Brianna Swift, Ashton Winrow, Camber Kelsay, Jase Mehring, and Mark Patterson; 2 great-grandchildren, Aiden Mehring and Alexis Kidney, as well as a host of other family and friends. Her mother, Mary (Vickery) Stafford and her step-father who raised her, Emmett Stafford as well her father, Vernon Mehring all predecease her. A graveside service is scheduled for 1:00 p.m., Monday, April 22, 2013 at Holdenville City Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole.
