Virginia (McCarty) Bergen

Virginia Lee (McCarty) Bergen, 84 year old longtime Maud and Shawnee, Oklahoma resident passed from this life on Tuesday, December 13, 2016 at her home in Shawnee. She was born November 14, 1932 in Shawnee to parents Clarence McCarty and Dora Ann (Andersen) McCarty. Virginia was raised in Shawnee where she attended Shawnee Public Schools. On May 18, 1957 Virginia married Homer Bergen in Midwest City, Oklahoma. Virginia worked as a certified nurse’s assistant at the Maud Nursing Home and was a homemaker. The Bergens were members of Saint Louis Baptist Church for many years.  When the couple moved back to Shawnee they attended Wallace Ave. Baptist Church. Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Homer Bergen of the home. One daughter and son-in-law, Cindy and B.J. Guinn of Shawnee, Oklahoma. One brother, Bob McCarty of Maud, Oklahoma. Eight grandchildren, Jessica Pospisil, Jeremiah Pospisil, Jarrett Guinn, Randi Guinn, Miranda Groves, K.C. Groves, Zach Cheatham, and Daniel Cheatham. Twelve great-grandchildren, Colten White, Tynslee White, Kahle Groves, Bob Groves, Adelene Cheatham, Jett Novotny, Phoenix Novotny, Drew Guinn, Asher Guinn, Emmy Guinn, Peyten Bartholomew, and Evan Bartholomew.  Virginia is also survived by a host of other family and dear friends. Virginia was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Dora Ann McCarty, one daughter, Donna Bergen who died May 11, 2016,  three brothers, Jack McCarty, Don McCarty, Edward McCarty, one sister, Marie Lynn and by one sister-in-law, Francis “Fran” McCarty. Viewing and prayer will be held 3:00 p.m., Friday, December 16, 2016 at Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole.  Interment will be at Fairview Cemetery in Shawnee, Oklahoma.
