Virgil Mae Winrow was born December 26, 1941 to Carl Richard and Ernestine (Ervin) Young of Brooksville, Oklahoma. She grew up in the small town of Brooksville, Oklahoma, and attended G.W. Carver Elementary, Dunbar (Shawnee) and graduated from Macomb High School in 1959. She was active in Basketball, Glee Club and loved playing softball even into adulthood. In 1963, Virgil married Robert L. Winrow. She became the mother of three children, Randy S. Winrow, Rachelle L. Winrow-Jones, and Robert Kyle Winrow. Virgil was a member of Ware Chapel CME Church for over 53 years. She served in every capacity imaginable, church secretary was the last office that she held. Virgil served under 15 ministers and was a faithful servant according to Philippians 2:17 and Hebrews 6:10. Virgil worked at J.A. Rounge Co., Blue Bell of Seminole and Pottawatomie County Extension in Shawnee for brief periods of time before studying at Draughn’s School of Business and Gordon Cooper Vo-Tech Practical School of Nursing, where she became a LPN in 1978. She worked at Mission Hill Hospital for two years and then settled into home health services where she was able to perfect her craft of care giving. Virgil enlisted in the US Army Reserve in October 1978 where she obtained the rank of Specialist 5 and received numerous ARCOM awards. She and her Husband Robert's military experiences took them across the United States on basic training assignments and to Freiburg, Germany, where they were fortunate to explore Paris and the surrounding areas. Virgil was honorably discharged in September 1977. Virgil enjoyed reading, watching and playing sports, and traveling to family reunions and going on family trips throughout the United States. She also enjoyed spending time with her family, friends and relatives. Virgil leaves to cherish her memories: Her devoted Husband Robert; Children, Randy S. Winrow, Ontario, Canada; Rachelle (Blake) with son Kolin Joshua Keith and daughter Kourtney Leigh Jones of Earlsboro, OK, and Robert Kyle(Autumn) with son Hayden Michael and daughter Kyla Mae Winrow. She is survived by her Siblings: Joyce Chandler of Wilson, SC, Kathryn Oliver of Brooksville, OK, Sylvester Young of Colorado Springs, CO, and Carolyn Young of Brooksville, OK together with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and dear friends. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Tuesday, December 27, 2016 at the Immanual Baptist Church at 1451 East 45th Street in Shawnee, Oklahoma, with military honors. Rev. James Kenneth Grayson will officiate at the funeral. Burial will follow at the Earlsboro, Oklahoma Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Jimmy Johnson, Clarence Benard, Jr., Keyon Permetter, Jeff Satawake, Jeremy Talton and Richard Lay. Honorary bearers will be Darrell Johnson, Chad Brooking, Bobby Napoleon, Larry Richardson and Tony Watts. Funeral arrangements are in the care of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.
