Viola Ruth Hopkins, 83, Shawnee, Oklahoma resident, died Thursday, August 27, 2015 in Shawnee. Viola was a longtime Shawnee resident who was born on September 26, 1931 in Wewoka, Oklahoma to Earnest William “E.W.” Welch and Ophelia Beatrice (Campbell) Welch. On April 22, 1948 she married Ivan Gordon Hopkins. They spent most of their 64 happily married years living in Shawnee, where they had a large expanding family and were very well known, liked and respected in the town. Viola worked at the General Motors plant in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She loved to spend time mowing her lawn with her riding mower and playing on her computer. Viola’s middle name “Ruth” was passed down to five generations of her family. This was something that was very special and made her very proud. She is survived by her daughter, Pam Johnson and her son, Randy Hopkins; two brothers Leroy Welch and Clifford Welch; eight grandchildren, Annette (Bart) Granger, Shannon (Danny) Hilton, Ed (Marlyn) Johnson, Damon Hopkins, Angel Wilson, Anna (Jerry) Andrews, Randy Hopkins II, Ryan McCathern; 19 great grandchildren, Gabriel Wells, Ashley Granger, Abbey Granger, Darion Johnson, Dalton Johnson, Dayton Johnson, Toree Johnson, Kayla Johnson, Shai Johnson, Trinity Johnson, Alix Wilson, Brendon Wilson, Ariana Norris, Aydahn Norris, Aysha Norris, Ariania Norris and Caspian Andrews; three great great grandchildren, Zoey Williams, Za’Kiah Fullbright, Zandin Fullbright; and a host of other family and dear friends. Viola was preceded in death by her parents, four siblings, by her husband Ivan Hopkins, by her daughter, Regina Post, by one grandson, Arthur Wills III, and by one granddaughter, Jennifer Hopkins. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 2, 2015 at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with interment following at Little Cemetery. Rev. Leroy Kerbo will officiate the service. Casket Bearers will be: Randy Hopkins, Danny Hilton, Ed Johnson, Toree Johnson, Dalton Johnson and Dayton Johnson.
