Victor Underwood

Victor Lee Underwood, 61 year-old, lifelong Seminole resident passed from this life Tuesday, November 17, 2009 at the Veteran’s Hospital in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.  He was born June 16, 1948 to parents Nagie (Harjo) Underwood and Tecumseh Underwood, Sr. Victor graduated from Strother High School in 1966 and went on to serve our country in the United States Marine Corp.  He later received his associates’ degree in accounting from Seminole State College.  Victor was currently working for the Strother School System. Victor was also active in the Seminole Nation where he served in several capacities including the general council.  He was also an active member of the Seminole Nation Honor Guard.  Victor was a member of Friends Freewill Baptist Church in Cromwell, Oklahoma. Survivors include seven sons; Brandon Underwood of Seminole, Brian Underwood of Ohio, Beau Underwood, Blake Underwood, Kevin Underwood, Lance Underwood and Clayton Underwood all of Seminole, Oklahoma; two brothers, Tecumseh “Tip” Underwood, Jr. of Maud, Oklahoma and Ted Underwood of Seminole, Oklahoma; four sisters, Donna Gayton of Ada, Oklahoma, Pam Underwood of Ada, Oklahoma, Rhonda Underwood of Ada, Oklahoma and Joe Kay Berryman of Shawnee, Oklahoma; 12 grandchildren and a host of other family and dear friends. Victor is preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Willie Bond Underwood and Matthew Underwood; one sister Tawanna Underwood and by one daughter, Victoria Underwood. Wake services are scheduled for Thursday, November 19, 2009 at 6:00 p.m., at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel.  Then Victor will be taken to Strothers Gym at 4:00 p.m. Friday, November 20, 2009 where there will be a wake service held Friday evening at 6:00 p.m. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 21, 2009 at Strother High School Gym.  Interment will follow at Underwood Family Cemetery 5 1/4 miles East of Little on Hwy 99A.
