Veta Fern (Summers) Choate, 92 year old lifelong Seminole County resident passed from this life on Friday, March 11, 2016 at her home in Seminole, Oklahoma. She was born January 9, 1924 in Sasakwa, Oklahoma to parents, John Summers and Verta (Armfield) Summers. On December 11, 1940 Veta married David Choate in Sasakwa, Oklahoma. Veta was a homemaker and a member of Freewill Baptist Church in Seminole for many years. She had also attended the Blessed Rock Freewill Baptist Church in Wewoka, Oklahoma. Veta had served as a “Pink Lady” at the old Seminole Hospital for 10 years. She is also a former Avon Representative. Survivors include three sons and daughters-in-law, David and Edith Choate of McAlester, Oklahoma, John and Loretta Choate of Seminole, Oklahoma and Jim and Anna Choate of Seminole, Oklahoma. 11 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, and a host of other family and dear friends. Veta was the last of seven children, having 3 brothers and 3 sisters. Veta was preceded in death by her parents, John and Veta Summers; by her husband of 62 years, David J. Choate who died in 2002; by one daughter, Linda Choate who died in 2013; by two grandsons, David Choate Jr. who died in 2005 and by Brian Choate who died in 2008; by three brothers, E.H. Summers, Elvis Summers, and Harvey Summers; by three sisters, Alice, Mae and Minnie. Graveside services are scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Monday, March 14, 2016 at Rest Haven Memorial Gardens in Seminole, Oklahoma with Pastor Troy Bordeaux officiating the service. Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.
