Vernon Yancey

Vernon E. Yancey, 86 Vernon Elwood Yancey, life long Seminole resident, passed away Sunday, October 13, 2013 in Seminole, Oklahoma at the age of 86. Vernon was born on July 31, 1927 in Seminole, Oklahoma to parents Richard Alonzo Yancey and Lilly Loraine (Ross) Yancey. Vernon married Mildred Lucille (Brown) Yancey in Shawnee, Oklahoma on October 20, 1945. He was a member of the Seminole Freewill Baptist Church of Seminole, Oklahoma. He worked in construction plumbing and in the oil field before retiring in 1971 due to a back injury. Vernon lived in Roswell, New Mexico from 1952 to 1961 before moving back to Seminole, Oklahoma. Vernon was a Godly man who loved his Lord and pointed many souls to Calvary. He enjoyed reading his Bible and was a great prayer warrior, having a list of countless people he prayed for before going to the nursing home where things changed, but his love for his Savior remained in his heart. Vernon is survived by three daughters, Sandra Eads of Kallispell, Montana, Vickie Yancey of Seminole, Oklahoma and Anna Choate of Seminole, Oklahoma; four brothers Carl Yancey, Bobbie Yancey, Don Yancey and Clint Yancey and one sister Mary Allen. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. Vernon was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Lilly Yancey, his wife, Mildred Yancey on September 24, 2008; one brother and two sisters. Graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, October 15, 2013 at Maple Grove Cemetery in Seminole, Oklahoma with Clint Yancey officiating. Serving as casket bearers are: Jimmy Choate, Jr., Elijah Choate, Kenneth Downey, Al Roberts, Ryan Harris and Chester Phillips.
