Vernon Thomas Vaughn

Vernon Thomas Vaughn, 88 year old Shawnee, Oklahoma resident, passed from this life on Wednesday, January 9, 2019 in Shawnee, Oklahoma.  He was born November 4, 1930 in Seminole County, Oklahoma to parents Willie Alma (Shields) Vaughn and George Thomas Vaughn. Vernon was raised in Seminole County and later moved to Shawnee where he graduated from Shawnee High School. Vernon, his mother and brothers were charter members of Temple Baptist Church in Shawnee. Vernon worked for 30 years at Tinker Air Force Base in Midwest City, Oklahoma as an engineer before his retirement.  He then worked in Moore and Norman Vo-Tech as a business counselor. Vernon remained very active in church, and was a deacon and youth director at Eufaula First Baptist Church.  He was leader of a church group called “Royal Ambassadors’” where he met many lifelong friends including Gary Eubanks and Chester Boykin who he remained friends with until the day he went to meet his Lord and Savior. Survivors include an aunt, Irene Seabourn of California; one brother, Harell Vaughn of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; nieces and nephews, Cheryl Jackson and her husband Steve of Earlsboro, Oklahoma, Richard Vaughn and his wife Pauline of Carson, California, Mr. and Mrs. Ron Vaughn of Norman, Oklahoma, Rob Vaughn of Jarrell, Texas, Diana Vaughn of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Tricia Schelhaas of Bell Flower, California, Michelle Rambo of Corona, California; and a host of other family, Church family and dear friends. Vernon was preceded in death by his parents, by two brothers, Darell Vaughn, Mainard Vaughn and by one sister, Grace Cleere Anderson. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Monday, January 14, 2019 at Temple Baptist Church located at 1234 E. Highland St. in Shawnee, Oklahoma with Brother Gary Eubanks and Brother Mike Craig officiating the service.  Interment will follow at Little Cemetery located on Hwy. 99 north of Seminole, Oklahoma. The family requests that donations be made to the Temple Baptist Church Building Fund in Memory of Vernon Vaughn at P.O. Box 3277, Shawnee, Oklahoma 74802. The family also wants to acknowledge the love and care given to Vernon by Shawnee Care Center and Valir Hospice.
