Vernon Cecil Tebe

Vernon Cecil Tebe , age 69 and a resident of Konawa, Oklahoma passed away September 19, 2021 at SSM St. Anthony Hospital in Shawnee, Oklahoma.

A Wake service is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Konawa, Oklahoma.  Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Thursday, September 23rd at the Chapel, and Rev. Beverly Altizer will officiate.  Burial will follow at Tebe Family Cemetery, and casket bearers are Anthony Harjo, Joseph Tebe, Steven Tebe, Jacob Tebe, Camron Tebe, and Malachi Tebe.

Vernon was born January 7, 1952 in Oklahoma City to Arthur Tebe and Onis (Harjo) Tebe.  He attended school at the Oklahma American Indian Boarding School in Adrmore, Oklahoma. Vernon married Joan Teehee on April 19, 1972 in Oklahoma City, and he worked as a Certified Nurse’s Assistant for New Horizon Nursing Home in Konawa.  He was a member of the Indian Mission Pentecostal Church of God Church in Konawa, and he loved listening to the sermons and listening to gospel music.  Vernon also loved fishing and watching sports.

He is survived by two sons, Jacob Tebe of Konawa, and Steven Tebe and wife, Rachel also of Konawa; one daughter-in-law, Kristeena Payne of Konawa; and nine grandchildren, Cameron, Mahayla, Noah, Caleb, Malachi, Elijah, Chloe, Robert, and Jonathan.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Joan Tebe; two sons, Michael Tebe and Ross Tebe; six brothers, Jimmy Tebe, Paul Tebe, Henry Harjo, Benny Harjo, Lloyd Harjo, and Bobby Harjo; two sisters, Lucy Harjo and Viola Tebe.
