Vernon Edward Staley passed away Friday, October 30, 2015 at the VA Center in Norman, Oklahoma at the age of 94 years. He was born in St. Joseph, Missouri on February 5, 1921 to James Horton Staley and Ethel Maud (Benscoter) Staley. He married Carrie Louise Burton on October 22, 1939 in Seminole, Oklahoma. Vernon was preceded in death by his wife, Carrie Louise Staley, his parents James Horton Staley and Ethel Maud Speisser, his brother, Wendell Fay Staley, and his granddaughter Laura Ann Staley. He is survived by two sons, William Eddie Staley, and his wife Linda and Vernon Paul Staley, five grandchildren, Todd Staley, Seminole, Steven Staley, Ft. Riley, Kansas, Scott Staley, Seminole, Jansen Staley, Tulsa, and Kassie Smith of Vertigris, Oklahoma, eleven great grandchildren and six great-great grandchildren. Vernon attended grade school in Tracy, Iowa. He graduated from Central High School, Oklahoma City in 1939. During World War II, he was trained as a radio operator in the Army Air Force. He managed Collier Brothers Furniture in Seminole, Oklahoma until he retired in 1985. Vernon was a charter member of the Seminole Bass Club and an avid supporter of Seminole’s Sportsman Lake. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, November 3, 2015 at Maple Grove Cemetery, with Rev. Carl Whitfield officiating.
