Vernon James, 81, longtime Seminole resident, died Wednesday, July 20, 2016 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Vernon was born on February 21, 1935 in Seminole, Oklahoma to John and Alta James. Vernon was a licensed insurance agent and co-owner of Dacus Insurance Agency with his wife Nona James from 1993 until they sold the business to Sullivan-Dollar Insurance Agency in 1997. Vernon was a member of the Bowlegs Assembly of God Church and recently had been attending the Capital Hill Assembly of God Church in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He was a former member of the Seminole Rotary Club and served his country in the U.S. Air Force. Vernon married Nona (Snell) James on June 25, 1965, in Seminole, Oklahoma and they have enjoyed 51 years of marriage. Vernon is survived by his wife Nona James, of Seminole, Oklahoma, his nephews; Jack Boyd of Noble, Oklahoma, Jerry Boyd of Phoenix, Arizona, Jeff Seyfert of Yukon, Oklahoma, Ronnie Bright of Blanchard, Oklahoma, Wayne Snell of Seattle, Washington and William Snell of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; nieces Judy Hailey of Dallas, Texas, Patty Hallmark of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, Susan Halstead of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma , Pat McNatt of Dallas, Texas, and Diana Blasingame of Huntington, Arkansas; brother-in-law, Carl Seyfert of Seminole, Oklahoma, sisters-in-law, Mary Seyfert of Seminole, Oklahoma and Johnnie Hailey of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and many cousins and friends. Funeral services will be 10:00 A.M., Monday, July 25, 2016 at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole, Oklahoma with Rev. Tim Tate officiating and Rev. Roy Robertson assisting. Burial will follow at the Maple Grove Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Don Pinkerton, Jeff Seyfert, Todd Hallmark, Jack Boyd, Ronnie Bright, and D.D. Patterson. The family will receive friends and family at a visitation on Sunday, July 24, 2016 from 2:00 P.M. to 4 P.M., at the Swearingen Funeral Home.
