Vernon Ray Isaacs was born September 9, 1931 in Konawa, Oklahoma, the tenth child of thirteen children born to Jesse Isaacs and Ida Bell (Breckeen) Isaacs. He was also the tenth child to follow his parents to heaven. Vernon wasn’t one to sit idle. He loved visiting with friends and family, and telling stories of his adventures. He grew up in the River Bend area of Konawa where fishing the river and hunting arrowheads were two of his favorite past-times. After his service in the Army, he moved to Bakersfield, California where he met and married Patsy Ruth Evans on September 2, 1955. They were married sixty-one years until Pat’s death on November 28, 2016. Vernon was an amazing singer, song writer, and musician. He loved playing the guitar and singing. While in Bakersfield, he entered and won many competitions - beating some singers that went on to be household names. They moved back home to Konawa to raise their three children in the early 1960's. It is hard to sum up such an interesting life in a few words when there is so much more that could be said.
He is survived by two sons, Dennis Isaacs and wife, Katie of Konawa, and Danny Isaacs and wife, Debbie of Konawa; two daughters, Sheila Herndon and Danny Wofford of Kingston, Oklahoma, and Angie Young and husband, Robert of Seminole, Oklahoma; one brother, Bill Isaacs and wife, Juanda of Konawa; two sisters, Lavada Archer of Glendale, Arizona, and Neva Rodgers of Konawa, nine grandchildren, Brandon Underwood, Brian Underwood, Beau Underwood, Blake Underwood, Trina Lee, Scotty Isaacs, T. Isaacs, Tinley Johnson, and Ian Isaacs; twenty-two great grandchildren, and six great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jesse and Ida Isaacs; his wife, Patsy Isaacs; four brothers, Orville, Beecher, Raymond, and Doug Isaacs; three sisters, Wyoma Peiret, Lola Roberts, and Audrey Coursey.
