Vernon Edward Staley, 94, passed away Friday, October 30, 2015, at the Veterans Center in Norman, Oklahoma. Vernon was born in St. Joseph, Missouri on February 5, 1921 to James Horton Staley and Ethel Maud (Benscoter) Staley. He married Carrie Louise Burton on October 22, 1939, in Seminole, Oklahoma. Vernon was preceded in death by his wife of 69 years, Carrie Louise Staley, his parents James Horton Staley and Ethel Maud Speisser, his step-mother Marjorie Faught, his brother Wendell (Sam) Fay Staley and his granddaughter Laura Ann Staley. He is survived by two children; William Eddie Staley and his wife Linda and V.P. Staley both of Seminole, Oklahoma; five grandchildren Scott Staley of Seminole, Oklahoma, Steven Staley of Bartlesville, Oklahoma, Todd Staley of Seminole, Oklahoma, Kassie Smith of Claremore, and Jansen Staley of Tulsa, Oklahoma; eleven great-grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren and many other loving relatives and friends. Vernon attended grade school in Tracy, Iowa. He graduated in 1939 from Central High School in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. During World War II he was trained as a radio operator in the U.S. Army Air Force. He managed Collier Brothers Furniture in Seminole until he retired in 1985. Vernon was a charter member of the Seminole Bass Club, Lake board member for 32 years and an avid supporter of Seminole’s Sportsman Lake. The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the Norman Veterans Center and Valir Hospice for their support in his final days. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 A.M., Friday, November 6, 2015 at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole, with Rev. Carl Whitfield officiating. Burial services took place on this past Tuesday at Maple Grove Cemetery. Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.
