Vernie Brooks

Vernie B. (Brown) Brooks, 68 year-old Earlsboro, Oklahoma resident passed from this life on Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at her home in Earlsboro.  She was born August 13, 1944 in Shawnee, Oklahoma to parents Edward Brown and Arnetta (Lee) Brown. Vernie graduated from Earlsboro High School in 1962 and went on to earn her associates degree from Oklahoma School of Business and Technology. On December 11, 1975 Vernie married Kenneth “Joe” Brooks in San Diego, California.  She worked in the banking industry at Security Pacific Bank and later as the manager of the Bank of America both located in San Diego. The couple returned to the Earlsboro area in 1998 where Vernie worked for the Earlsboro Public School District until her retirement.  She was also member of Ware Chapel C.M.E. Methodist Church in Earlsboro. Vernie leaves to cherish her memories her mother, Arnetta Jackson of Earlsboro, Oklahoma; her husband of 38 years, Kenneth “Joe” Brooks of the home; one son and daughter-in-law, Tommy C. Brown and his wife Taria of Choctaw, Oklahoma; one daughter, Bridgett Brooks of Earlsboro, Oklahoma; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Parthenia "Tina" Burdine and her husband Alphonso of Edmond, Oklahoma, Deneisa Jackson of Edmond, Oklahoma; one granddaughter, Courtney Brown of Choctaw, Oklahoma; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and dear friends. Her father, Edward Brown, preceded Vernie in death. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 a.m., Saturday, May 25, 2013 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole with Rev. Grayson officiating the service.  Interment will follow at Earlsboro Cemetery. Casket Bearers will be: Zelford M. Smith, Lee W. Hodges Sr., Lee W. Hodges Jr., Clarence Benard Jr., Rodney Harris and Melvin Burdine.  The Flower Bearers will be: the women of Ware Chapel C.M.E.
