Vera Bernice (Hudson) Doran, age 82 and a long-time resident of Konawa, Oklahoma passed away on Thursday, May 7, 2015 at St. Anthony Hospital in Shawnee, Oklahoma. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Monday, May 11, 2015 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Konawa. Richard Winters will officiate, and burial will follow at Dora Cemetery. Pallbearers are Frankie Hudson, Kerry Wayne Hudson, Jeff Hudson, Shawn Lawson, Kirby Graham, and Tommy Sexton. Honorary pallbearers are Tommy Hudson, Charles Hudson, Afton Hudson, and the nephews. Vera was born on April 30, 1933 in Konawa to Joseph Oscar Hudson and Hellen Lucille (Bell) Hudson. She married Samuel Paul Doran on February 15, 1974 in Gainsville, Texas. She was a Fork Lift Operator for Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma City. She was a member of the Church of Christ in Konawa, and she loved to sew and to make quilts. Vera perfected the “Red Riding Hood” doll and made one for each of her children and grandchildren. She also made many more of them for her local community and people across the nation. Vera was an active member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Order of the Amaranth. She always had a smile for everyone she met. She leaves behind to cherish her memories, two daughters, Retha Plumlee and Carol Banta, both of Konawa; three brothers, Tommy Hudson of Sasakwa, Oklahoma, Charles Hudson of Maud, Oklahoma, and Afton Hudson of Eunice, New Mexico; one sister, June Morgan of Tecumseh, Oklahoma; seven grandchildren; numerous great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Hellen Hudson; her husband, Sam Doran; one son, Carl Lowry; one daughter, Peggy Mathis; and three brothers, Cleo, Alfred, and Lonzo.
