Seminole resident, Velma Mae Baxter, 96, passed away Thursday, December 26, 2024, in Oklahoma City.
Velma, the daughter of Charlie and Ruby (Coulter) Winner, was born January 26, 1928, in Kansas City, Missouri. Velma cared deeply for people and extended that care by spending her life working in hospital and nursing home kitchens. She enjoyed reading and working puzzles. Velma was at her happiest, when she was spending time with her family and friends, particularly with her grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents and by sisters, Mary Nickerson and Juanita Massey.
Velma is survived by her son, Fred Baxter, of Texas; daughter and son-in-law, Debbie and Ken Crane, of Seminole; five grandchildren, Kari Laxson, Courtney Waugh, Amy Roberts, Sara Dees, and Jay Baxter; eleven great grandchildren, Aidan Laxson, Bryson Laxson, Beckett Laxson, Alexa Laxson, Briggs Laxson, Fletcher Waugh, Emersyn Waugh, Crosby Waugh, Rory Elliott, Parker Dees, and Marlee Dees; along with many other family members and friends.
A memorial service is scheduled for Friday, January 31, 2025, at 4:00 P.M. in the fellowship room at the Seminole Church of Christ, with Arpoika Daniels officiating. Cremation services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole.
