Gene was born February 24, 1966 in Shawnee, Oklahoma to Veldon Eugene Spicer, Sr. and Sharon Kay (McNutt) Spicer. He was born with a feisty personality and a 100% on-the-go attitude, non-stop. He kept his momma hopping in his younger years. He graduated from Konawa High School in 1984, and attended Rose State College. Gene proudly served as a Corporal in the United States Marine Corp. While stationed in California, he and his first wife, Millie welcomed their son, Tyler Charles. He worked as a diesel mechanic for Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma City. He married JoAnn Parks on March 20, 2008 in Eureka Springs, Arkansas.
Gene was an avid hunter. He loved being outdoors. There were not many ponds in St. Louis, Oklahoma that he had not fished in or thrown a fishing pole into. His first job away from home was working for a local farmer. He saved his money to buy his horse, Sugar. Splitting wood, cutting down corn stalks, and chores that his dad gave to him, instilled a good work ethic which he carried all of his life. You could count on him to get the job done. Gene was a supportive, loving, caring, compassionate, devoted man. These were characteristics that he learned from his sweet momma. When you fondly remember Gene, remember that he rooted for OU, loved America, and was just a good ole’ country boy.
He is survived by his loving wife, JoAnn Spicer of the home; his mother, Sharon Spicer of St. Louis, Oklahoma; four sons, Tyler Spicer and wife, Christina of McKinney, Texas, Matthew Cook of Oklahoma City, Christopher Cook and wife, Stephanie of Yukon, Oklahoma, and Cody Cook and fiancé Jessica Reeves of Anderson, Ohio; one sister, Michelle Fidler and husband, Tracy of St. Louis, two sisters-in-law, Bekye Rackley and husband, Kenneth of Yukon, Oklahoma, and Rena Robbins and husband, Gary of Oklahoma City; four grandchildren, Taylor, Raylee, Kyra, and Landon Cook; grandbaby Spicer due in March; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, other family, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his dad, Pops; grandparents, S.T. and Inez McNutt, and George and Jewell Spicer.
