Troy Young

August 9, 1925 — May 14, 2011

Troy V. Young, 85 year-old, life long Seminole resident passed from this life Saturday, May 14, 2011 at Shawnee, Oklahoma.  Troy was born August 9, 1925 in Snomac, Oklahoma to parents Robert Melton and Alice M. (Riddlin) Young. Mr. Young grew up in the Snomac and Bowlegs areas of Seminole County.  As a young man he often walked to school and for a time worked during his school years at Bowlegs Public Schools.  During his growing up he had a horse named “Rats” that he loved to ride.  After graduation he joined the United States Coast Guard and served his county in World War II aboard the CGC Calypso out of Norfolk, Virginia where he served as Seaman First Class.  After his time in the military he married Virginia Dee Shorney on February 14, 1948 in Shawnee, Oklahoma.  She preceded him in death on June 15, 2007. Troy was an insurance sales agent for American National Life Insurance Company for over 17 years.  Mr. Young also worked at Consumers Gas Station in Seminole and operated his dairy; farming and raising cattle for many years while at the same time raising his family.  Family was everything to Troy and he loved them very much.  He loved to fish and go boating and took his family skiing often on Wewoka Lake when they were young.  Mr. Young also loved to travel, watch cartoons, westerns and eat ice cream.  Above everything he was a quiet, loving family man. Mr. Young is survived by two sons, Troy V. Young, Jr. and his wife Cheryl Lynn Young of McLoud, Oklahoma and John Timothy Young and his wife Trish Young of Shawnee, Oklahoma; two daughters, Cheryl Ann Morrison and June M. Sexton both of Seminole, Oklahoma; one sister, Dolly French of Seminole, Oklahoma; eight grandchildren, Jeremy Sexton, Megan Sexton, Crystal Richards, Tammy Sexton, Nathan Brent Young, Frankie Lee Young, Timothy Logan Young and Ashley Ann Young; ten great-grandchildren and a host of other family and dear friends. Troy was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Virginia Young in 2007; two grandsons, Shawn Sexton and Jason Sexton,one brother, John E. Young; one sister, Addie Mae Weaver. Graveside services are scheduled for 3:00 p.m., Saturday, May 21, 2011 at Maple Grove Cemetery with Military Honors.  Rev. Carl Whitfield will officiate the service. Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.
