Troy Francis Sharp, 89, of Konawa, OK died on Monday, June 18, 2012 at Unity Health Center in Shawnee, Oklahoma from complications of pneumonia. Troy Sharp was born to Samuel Martin and Mary Pearl (Neil) Sharp on February 22, 1923 in Bakersfield, Missouri. When he was three years old, the family moved to Konawa, OK. He attended school at Georgetown and Konawa. He went on to work in the Civilian Conservation Corps Camp in Colorado during Franklin D. Roosevelt’s New Deal where he accumulated a stash of silver dollars that he saved and passed to his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren throughout the rest of his life. When he returned to Oklahoma, he married Audrey Dobbins at Maud, Oklahoma on July 11, 1944. The couple’s marriage ceremony had to be moved across the street from the church to the funeral home because of the county marriage license restrictions. He worked in the oil field as a pumper, roustabout, and more until his retirement after multiple hip replacements. After retiring, he spent his time gardening, tracking the weather, and enjoying his grandchildren. He was a long-time member of Trinity Baptist Church in Maud. Troy was preceded in death by his wife Audrey Verlene (Dobbins) Sharp, of Konawa; his grandson Brandon Thomas Sharp of Shawnee; and his son-in-law Virgil Harrison Taylor Jr.; His parents Samuel Martin and Mary Pearl (Neil) Sharp; and his siblings Neil Sharp, Hobart Sharp, Haskell “Red” Sharp, Ralph Sharp, Gladys (Sharp) Perks, Deborah “Lorene” (Sharp) Bartholme, Louie Sharp, and Audrey “Priss” (Sharp) Denny. Troy is survived by his children Tom and Mary Sharp of Shawnee, Sharyn (Sharp) Taylor of Owasso, and Janet (Sharp) and Philip Mullins of Konawa. His grandchildren Virgil and Stephanie Taylor of Stillwater, Kalynn (Taylor) and Robert Smith of Collinsville, Rachel (Mullins) and Kent Dillin of Stillwater, Amanda (Mullins) and Brandon Leslie of Konawa, and Rebekah (Mullins) and James Rogers of Konawa. His 18 great-grandchildren Paige, Alexander, Matthew, Mark, Audrey, Emma, Autumn, Maxwell, and Abigail Taylor; Troy, Brandon, and Aaron Smith; Joshua and Audrey Dillin; Jacob and Jarod Leslie; and Philip and Faith Rogers. Troy never met a stranger, and when he saw people and visited with them, his family was one of his favorite things to talk about. He used to stand in the middle of his large clan, spread out his arms, and say with a satisfied smile “look what Mama and I started.” He was proud of his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. A graveside service for Troy Sharp will be held on Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at 10.a.m. in Konawa Cemetery with Philip Mullins officiating. Knight-Swearingen Funeral Home of Maud is in charge of the arrangements. The Family suggests memorial tributes be sent to Trinity Baptist Church P.O. Box 177 in Maud, Oklahoma 74854 in memory of Troy Sharp. Hardworking, Friendly, Family, Longevity If we have been pleased with life, we should not be displeased with death, since it comes from the hand of the same master.
