Togie E. Lewis, 89 years old, long time Maud, Oklahoma resident passed from this life on Friday, February 7, 2014 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born May 11, 1925 in Silo, Oklahoma to parents Elmer Leland Lewis and Mary Elizabeth (Murray) Lewis. Following High School Togie went on to serve in the United States Army as a Tech. Sergeant with the 5250th Technical Intelligence Company as a Sharpshooter, were he earned the Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Ribbon, Army of Occupation Ribbon (Japan), Meritorius Unit Award, 1 Overseas Service Bar and the Victory Ribbon. Togie married Glenda G. Haley on January 8, 1945 in Durant, Oklahoma. Togie worked for Phillips Petroleum for 38 years. He was also a farmer and rancher. Togie owned and trained many running quarter horses, and he was a member of the Oklahoma and National quarter horse association. Togie and his family lived several years in Wewoka, where all three of his children graduated from Wewoka High School. He had earned the rank of a 32nd degree Mason while a member of the Masonic Lodge in Wewoka. The family attended the Church of Christ in Wewoka. The Lewis family had lived in several towns including Lindsey and Wewoka before moving to Maud about 50 years ago. Survivors include his wife of 69 years, Glenda G. (Haley) Lewis of the home; one son, Gary Lewis and his wife Melanie of Maud, Oklahoma; two daughters, Cynthia "Dian" (Lewis) Koch and her husband Glenn of Seminole, Oklahoma, Connie Darleen (Lewis) Reed of Maud, Oklahoma; two brothers, Jehu Lewis and his wife Betty of Durant, Oklahoma, Ronnie Lewis of Silo, Oklahoma; two sisters, Ruth Slaten of Silo, Oklahoma, Margie Leland of Salt Lake City, Utah; five grandchildren, Mary Katherine Lewis, Justin Lewis, Jeremy Lewis, Raymond Reed, Clint Reed; one great-grandson, Miles Nitushi Lewis; and a host of other family and dear friends. Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, February 12, 2014 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole, Oklahoma with Military Honors. Interment will follow at Cummings Cemetery in Maud, Oklahoma. Casket Bearers will be: Justin Lewis, Raymond "Dusty" Reed, Clint Reed, Jeremy Lewis, Jehu Lewis and Ronnie Lewis.
