Thurma Nell Howell

Graveside services for Thurma Nell Howell are scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on Monday, October 7, 2024 at the Pontotoc Cemetery under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, OK. 

Thurma passed away on Wednesday, October 2, 2024, at the age of 81. She was born on September 11, 1943 to Thurman Edward Howell and Velma Lee (Welchell) Howell in Roff, Oklahoma. Her parents preceded her in death. She was also preceded in death by her great niece, Chloe Crawford.

Thurma is survived by her two sisters and brother-in-law, Carol Howell of Seminole and Shirley and Larry Crawford; one daughter and son-in-law, Shoba and Gary Lindsey; two grandchildren, Jessica and Elizabeth Lindsey; great grandchild, Grace Bishop and three nephews, Ron Crawford and wife, Susan, Robert Crawford and Blake Crawford.

Thurma graduated from East Central University with a bachelors and masters degree in education before beginning her 30 year long career as an elementary school teacher. While teaching, she decided to explore adoption, knowing her family would always be there to support her. Following her career as a teacher, she started a new career as a grandmother. 

Thurma was an incredible sister, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt who was able to provide those surviving her with an example of what unconditional love truly meant. She had so much love for her family she would always have to say it three times before saying goodbye. She was her an unwavering supporter for her family in every endeavor, leaving no doubt of her immense pride in each of them. In the words of her family, while our hearts ache with the loss, we find comfort in the joy she brought into our lives and the cherished memories we hold dear.
