Theodore Rivers, 82, longtime Seminole resident died Tuesday, October 4, 2011 at Pioneer Nursing Home in Seminole. Theodore was born November 15, 1928 at Harjo, Oklahoma in Pottawatomie County to Luther Harris and Tezzie (Miller) Rivers. Mr. Rivers grew up in the Harjo area East of Tecumseh, Oklahoma and after graduation from high school he served in U.S. Army from 1952 to 1954 as a Private First Class and was discharge to the United States Army Reserve where he served as a corporal until May of 1961. Mr. Rivers worked at Tinker Air Force Base from 1950-1952 as a dry cleaner and after the service went back to work at Tinker Air Force Base as an inspector. Mr. Rivers was a longtime member at the Galilee Baptist Church where he served as deacon. He was currently a member of the Immanuel Fellowship Church. He married Leona (Coley) Rivers on June 23, 1984 in Seminole, Oklahoma. He is survived by his wife Leona Rivers of Seminole, Oklahoma a Sister Lorene Shannon of Seminole, Oklahoma a step daughter and son-in-law Kathryn M. and Charles Wood of Seminole, Oklahoma and nieces Tamika Shannon of Seminole, Oklahoma and Tammy Spencer of O Fallon, Illinois. His parents and three brothers and five sisters preceded him in death. Funeral services are planned for 11:00 A.M., Saturday, October 8, 2011 at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with burial at Westwood Cemetery west of Wewoka, Oklahoma with military honors. Pastor Tim Tate will officiate at the service.
