Thelma Mae Whitt

Thelma Mae Whitt, 94, longtime Seminole, Oklahoma resident, passed away at her home on Thursday, September 26, 2019. She was born January 4, 1925 in Stroud, Oklahoma to parents William Lee Russell and Lillie Lillian (Hulsey) Russell. She married James L. Whitt on December 25, 1943 in Stroud, Oklahoma and sadly, he passed away February 6, 2006. Thelma received her bachelor’s degree from East Central University and worked as a 5th grade teacher at Northwood School in Seminole until her retirement. She enjoyed cooking, reading, making quilts and bowling. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Seminole. Thelma is survived by her son Tommy C. Whitt and his wife Tena, grandchildren; Eric Whitt and his wife Debbie, Saundra Thompson and her husband John, Tommy J. Whitt and Ryan Terry and his wife Bree and brothers; Frank Russell and his wife Kate of Tulsa, Oklahoma and Marvin Russell and his wife Wilma of Seminole, Oklahoma, eleven great grandchildren and one great-grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, daughter; Jeanne (Whitt) Terry, brother; Leon Russell and infant child; Jerry Whitt. Services for Thelma will be at 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 1, 2019 at the First United Methodist Church in Seminole, Oklahoma with Mark Watson and Tommy Clark officiating. Burial will follow at Stroud Cemetery in Stroud, Oklahoma. Casket bearers will be Eric Whitt, Ryan Terry, Shane Richardson, Isiah Thompson, Caleb Whitt and Bill West. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.
