Teri Harris

Teri Janice (Barbee) Harris, 60 year old Seminole County, Oklahoma resident, passed from this life on Christmas Day, December 25, 2016 at her home in Seminole County.  She was born October 13, 1956 in Muskogee, Oklahoma to parents William Eugene Barbee and Clessie Janelle (Jennings) Barbee. On February 14, 1978 Teri married Michael Roy Harris, Sr. in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.  The couple returned to Seminole County 36 years ago. Following cosmetology school, Teri earned her Associate in Science degree from Seminole State College in 1991.  Teri then went on to earn two Bachelor's degrees, the first in Art from Oklahoma University in Norman, Oklahoma, and the second in Chemistry from East Central University in Ada, Oklahoma.  Teri was a member of Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society in 1992 and Eta Sigma Phi in 1995. Teri earned her teaching degree and taught chemistry in Texas and Pauls Valley, Oklahoma. For the past two years Teri was working as a Petroleum Landman for Bearcatland. Teri was known to be strong willed.  If she were told not to move a rock she would find one two times the size you told her not to move, and show you she could move it. Survivors include her husband of 38 years Michael Roy Harris, Sr. of the home; one son, Adam Harris of Seminole, Oklahoma; two daughters, Melissa and her husband Mark Lee of Seminole, Oklahoma, Cynthia Elizares of Seminole, Oklahoma; one brother, Melvin and his wife Lily Barbee of Whitefield, Oklahoma; one sister, Phyllis and her husband Jimmy Carter of Eufaula, Oklahoma; mother-in-law, Aldean Harris of Seminole, Oklahoma; 5 grandchildren, Darien Harris, Joshua Harris, Jayden Elizares, Dayton Elizares, and Kayla Elizares; and a host of other family and dear friends. Teri is preceded in death by her parents, William and Clessie Barbee, one brother, Melton Barbee and by one son, Michael Roy Harris, Jr. who died in 1990 and by her father-in-law, Patrick Harris, Sr. in 2007. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 28, 2016 at Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.  Rev. Carl Whitfield will officiate the service.  Interment will follow at Little Cemetery. Casket Bearers will be: Michael Harris, Adam Harris, Mark Lee, Melvin Barbee, Jimmy Carter, and David Russell.
