Teddy Esco Oliphant , age 83 and a long-time resident of Konawa, Oklahoma, passed away December 13, 2022 at Oklahoma Heart Hospital North in Oklahoma City surrounded by his loving family.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Friday, December 16, 2022 at the First United Methodist Church of Konawa under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home of Konawa. Rev. Michelle McCarty will officiate, and burial will follow at Vamoosa Cemetery. Casket bearers are Chris Sharp, Greg Brewer, Lee Bolen, Mark Stoup, Brandon Stoup, Paul Gilbert, and Bryan Russell. Honorary bearers are Fred Oliphant, Brandon Oliphant, Wayne Smith, Anthony Johnson, Barry Gleichman, and Zeb Kuestersteffen.
Ted was born September 14, 1939 in Kiowa, Oklahoma to Fred Esco Oliphant and Lula Ovella (Whorton) Oliphant. He married Dena Mae McLemore on May 22, 1959 in Kiowa. Ted was a High School Administrator for the Konawa school district until his retirement. He and Dena owned a convenience store in Asher and a flower shop in Konawa. Ted loved playing golf, watching OU football and basketball games, and most of all, he enjoyed playing with his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Dena Oliphant of the home; two sons, Tony Lynn Oliphant and wife, Susan of Sherwood, Arkansas, and Darren Esco Oliphant and wife, Tiffany of Sasakwa, Oklahoma; one brother, Roger Grant of Konawa; two sisters, Robin Gomes of Oroville, California, and Rebecca Grant of Durant, Oklahoma; six grandchildren, Alissa Johnson, Fred, Kaley, Brandon, Preshaya, and Calaya Oliphant; three great grandchildren, Elijah Johnson, Addilynn Oliphant, and Layne Akerman; and numerous other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
