Susie (Wood) Harjo passed away at the age of 92 on March 4, 2020 in Shawnee, Oklahoma. She was born on April 2, 1927 in Wolf, Oklahoma to parents Emmitt Wood and Hepsey (Hotulka) Wood. She was an enrolled member of the Seminole Nation of Oklahoma and belonged to the Tallahassee Band and the Bird Clan. During her lifetime Susie enjoyed being a homemaker. She was able to care for herself for the majority of her life and treasured her independence. She enjoyed sewing, doing alterations, cooking for her family and preparing food for church activities. She was an active member of Bird Creek Baptist Church in Sasakwa, Oklahoma and enjoyed gospel singing. Susie worked as a teacher's aide for many years at a number of schools in Seminole County including Wolf Elementary, Bowlegs Elementary, Summer's Chapel, Seminole Bilingual Program and Wewoka Elementary until her retirement. Susie was preceded in death by her parents; Emmitt Wood and Hepsey Hotulka, three brothers; Dan Wood, Jacob Wood and Oscar Wood and one sister; Easter Mae Brooks. She is survived by one daughter; Gwendolyn Crenshaw of Shawnee, three sons; Bobby Harjo and wife Susan of Shawnee, Preston Harjo and wife Glenda of Shawnee, Thomas Harjo, Jr. of Wewoka, two grandsons; Corey Crenshaw and Jeffrey Harjo, and two great grandchildren; Mila Crenshaw and Christian Crenshaw. Although many of Susie's relatives have already passed on, she leaves behind many friends and family who will miss her and treasure her memory. Now that the time has come for her to go to her new home, those who knew and loved her will miss her but take comfort in knowing that she has gone to be with her maker. Visitation and viewing for Susie will be from 1:00 to 5:00 p.m., Sunday, March 8, 2020 at Swearingen Funeral Home, 1001 N. Milt Phillips Avenue, Seminole, Oklahoma. The funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Monday, March 9, 2020 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Wolf Cemetery in Wolf, Oklahoma. Casket bearers will be Corey Crenshaw, Jeffrey Harjo and Michael A. Tiger. Arrangements are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.
