He married the love of his life, Cindy (Martin) Woods that same year. Also during 1971, Steve entered the U.S. Marine Corp where he was section chief, a nuclear warfare specialist and a prisoner escort.  He was promoted to corporal by individual merit, he was a proud Marine.  He attended East Carolina University, studying military history.  His oldest son, Heath, was born in 1972.  While stationed at Camp Lejeune, NC in 1973, his youngest son, Jeremy Lee was born.  After his military career ended, they spent a few more years in Texas, then relocated to Midwest City, OK in 1979 where he was part of the family owned Sonic Drive-In. The first of six grandchildren came in 1992, bringing the beginning of the happiest chapter in their lives. Steve went from Daddy to Poppie!  Never a bigger smile was on his face than when he was surrounded by his family, especially his grandbabies.   Steve will be remembered for his beautiful smile, huge heart and the way only Poppie could give his time and attention. But most of all, Steve will be remembered for the great love he had for his wife; he truly worshipped the ground she walked on.  He will also be remembered as a man who stood up for what he believed in, no matter the cost.  In his lifetime, he enjoyed being outdoors, camping, hunting, and fishing. The times he spent with his and wife's families on camping or hunting trips were true highlights in his life. Steve always found himself as the center of attention; laughing and making everyone laugh.   He enjoyed watching all sports, but he especially loved supporting his sons’ or his grandchildren's sport teams.
