Shawnee resident, Stanley Leon Moody, passed away Friday, September 8, 2023, in Seminole, at the age of 83.
Stanley, the son of Ellis and Ophelia Bell (Hunt) Moody, was born January 25, 1940, in Chisum, Oklahoma. He spent the majority of his life in the Maud area, and graduated from Maud High School where he played football. On May 22, 1979, he married Ina Vaughn in Louisiana. Stanley was a petroleum engineer for Estorill Oil Co and ultimately started and operated Sandy Petroleum, which he ran every day until his death. He was considered a legend in the oil field. He liked sports, especially OU, he also enjoyed spending weekends at Texoma striper fishing.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sisters Nelda Fern Guinn and Rogene Worl; along with a step son-in-law, Mike Hayes, and a stepson, Brad Mosley.
Stanley is survived by his wife, Ina, of the home; daughters and sons-in-law, Airawona “Roshel” Stabel and Stewart of Lakin, KS., Christy Kay McClaskey and Gary of Maud; step-daughter, Doris Hayes of Ada and step-son Ricky Holland and Debby, of Norman; seven grandchildren, Taylor Shane Stabel, Savanna Kay (Cook) Jones, Eryka Nicole (Stabel) Smith, Jayce Stanton Stabel, and Sydney Elizabeth McClaskey; eight great grandchildren, Ellie Kay Jones, Taylee Mae Stabel, Tia Nicole Stabel, Trace Elizabeth Stabel, Teagen Lee Stabel, Conner James Smith, Sophie Bell Smith, and Kenzie Ann Smith; and many other family members and friends.
Services will be Saturday, September 16, 2023, at 2:00 P.M. at Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, with Carl Whitfield officiating. Interment will follow at Cummings Cemetery in Maud. Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole.
