Stanford Paul “Stan the Man” Harjo, 64, died, Thursday, August 20, 2015 at his home in Seminole County. Stanford was born December 7, 1950 in Claremore, Oklahoma to Josephine Yarbrough and Wilson Harjo. Stanford was a Gerber operator at the Wrangler plant in Seminole, Oklahoma. He was a member of the Hitchitee Indian Methodist Church. Stanford married Patty Ann Pennock on September 21, 1973 in Shawnee, Oklahoma. Stanford enjoyed spending time with all his grandchildren and loved telling them jokes and taking hikes in the woods and riding bikes. He was preceded in death by his father Wilson Harjo, his mother Josephine Yarbrough, brothers George Harjo, Vincent Mike Harjo and Frank Thlocco. He is survived by his wife Patty Harjo of the Home, sons Patrick Paul Harjo of Shawnee, Oklahoma, Joseph Clay Harjo of Seminole, Oklahoma and James Edward Harjo of the home, sisters, Sherry Harjo, Cindy Harjo and Debra Pennock all of Seminole, Oklahoma, Mary Louise Simmers of Bristow, Delores Haynes of Seminole, Oklahoma and Lois Hicks of Okmulgee; one brother Lucian Harjo of Shawnee, Oklahoma; 20 grandchildren and 2 great grandsons. Services are planned for 11:00 A.M. Monday, August 24, 2015 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Ed George will officiate the services. Burial will follow at the Harjo Family Cemetery. A Wake service will be held Sunday, August 23, 2015 from 6-8 P.M. at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel. Casket bearers will be his grandsons; Stacey Harjo , Jalen Harjo, Marcus Harjo, Brandon Harjo, Isaiah Harjo and Jared Pennock. Honorary bearers will be Glen Gibson, Tommy Gibson, C.J. Harjo, William “J” Pennock and Storm Pennock. Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.
