Stacey Jo (Henslee) Mathis, age 54 and a former resident of Konawa, Oklahoma passed away Monday, October 10, 2016 at Alliance Health Hospital in Durant, Oklahoma. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 13, 2016 at the Assembly of God Church in Konawa under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home of Konawa. Pastor Steve Lowrance will officiate, and burial will follow at Konawa Cemetery. Casket bearers are Steven Mathis, Brian Mathis, Jay Greenlee, Chris Hart, Clay Phillips, and Junior Phillips. Honorary bearers will be the Oklahoma National Resources Conservation Service (NRCS). Stacey was born April 28, 1962 in Sacramento, California to parents, Jackie Lamont Henslee and Maxine (Peterson) Henslee. She moved from California at six weeks old to become an “Okie”. Anybody that knew Stacey knows how she loved animals. From the time she could walk, if she came up missing, you would find her in the mud and playing with the sows on the farm. Not much changed in her fifty years of life. Stacey graduated from Konawa High School in 1980 and from Oklahoma State University in 1984 with a Bachelor degree in Agricultural Education. Stacey started working for the Soil Conservation Service in 1983 as a summer trainee and continued until her death as a District Conservationist in Atoka, Oklahoma. Stacey was baptized at the Assembly of God Church in Konawa in 1974, and she married Greg Mathis on November 12, 1988 in Ferris, Oklahoma after fate brought them together. You see, they attended classes together at OSU; however, she would not pay him any attention. Then in 1987, they both were transferred to Durant, Oklahoma where they literally walked face-to-face into each other. They were never far apart from that time on. To this marriage, came one son, Joseph. He was his mother’s delight, and she lived every day to take care of and to love her son, husband, and family. She is survived by her husband, Greg Mathis and son, Joseph Mathis of their home in Durant, and mother, Maxine Henslee of Konawa. She was preceded in death by her father, Jackie Lamont Henslee, and sister, Tina Jeanette Henslee.
