Sophia Hernandez

Sophia Jean (Walters) Hernandez, 72 year old Seminole, Oklahoma resident, passed from this life Monday, December 4, 2017 at Deaconess Hospital in Oklahoma City.  She was born November 2, 1945 in Talihina, Oklahoma to parents Lillian (Morgan) Walters and Willie Walters. Sophia graduated from Konawa High School and went on to earn her associate of science in business degree from Seminole State College.  She was also a member of the Seminole Nation of Oklahoma. She worked as a seamstress for many years. Sophia enjoyed watching sports with her favorite teams being the Oklahoma City Thunder, Dallas Cowboys, OU Sooners and Texas Rangers. Survivors include two sons, Thomas Walters and Bobby Lena both of Seminole, Oklahoma; one step-son, Manuel Lena of Seminole, Oklahoma; one sister, Ruby Impson of Shawnee, Oklahoma; 6 grandchildren, George Lena of Ardmore, Oklahoma, Jabin King of Holdenville, Oklahoma, Trent Lena, Sarada Lena, Thunder Lena, Salyer Billie all of Seminole, Oklahoma; 2 great-grandchildren, Phoenix King of Holdenville, Oklahoma, Jaxtyne Lena of Seminole, Oklahoma; her second husband, Francisco Hernandez-Chicas of San Salvador, Mexico; and a host of other family and dear friends. Sophia is preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Lillian Walters and by her former husband Clifford Lena. Wake services are scheduled for Thursday, December 7, 2017 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole, Oklahoma from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services are scheduled for 3:00 p.m., Friday, December 8, 2017 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole, Oklahoma with Arthur Carpitcher and Jimpsey Harjo officiating the service.  Interment will follow at Vamoosa Cemetery located south of Seminole on Hwy. 377. Casket Bearers will be: Calvin W. Harjo, Paul E. Impson, Robert S. Impson, Manuel Lena and Kyle Coody. Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.
