Somer Jones

Somer Perry Jones, 93 year old lifelong Seminole resident passed from this life on Saturday, August 23, 2014 at Seminole Care and Rehabilitation Center in Seminole.  He was born September 3, 1920 in Welty, Oklahoma to parents William Robert Jones and Lena (Capel) Jones. Following High School, Somer served in the United States Army during the “Battle of the Bulge,” and had earned the rank of Sergeant. On October 23, 1944 Somer married the love of his life Mildred Melton in Cambridge, Gerogia. Somer worked for the United States Postal Service for 30+ years before his retirement.  He would walk his entire route which was anywhere from 18 to 22 miles a day.  After he got off work he would head to the golf course and walk the entire course. Somer was a member of the Seminole First Baptist Church for many years, he was also a member of the “IOOF” Odd Fellows Lodge, the Seminole American Legion and the Seminole Elks Lodge. Somer leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 70 years, Mildred (Melton) Jones of the home, two sons and a daughter-in-law, D. Bruce Jones and his wife Carol of Seminole, Oklahoma, Mike Jones of Tulsa, Oklahoma, one brother-in-law, Keith Inman of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, four grandchildren, Elizabeth Johnson, Michael Jones, Jeffery Jones and Sam Jones, several great-grandchildren and a host of other family and dear friends. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening, August 26, 2014 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, August 27, 2014 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole, Oklahoma with military honors.  Larry Inman will officiate the service.  Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery in Seminole. Casket Bearers will be: Michael Jones, Jeffery Jones, Sam Jones, Roger Inman and Justin Johnson. Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.
