Shirley Frances (Byram) Pfrehm, 87 year-old longtime Seminole resident passed from this life on Monday, September 12, 2011 at Seminole Care and Rehabilitation Center. She was born January 17, 1924 in Carter, Oklahoma to parents Lola W. (White) Byram and Alvin Justin Byram. Shirley graduated from Carter, Oklahoma High School in 1941 where she had been very involved with the “4-H Club,” even having the opportunity to attend the San Francisco World Fair. She went on to attended Oklahoma A&M now known as Oklahoma State University. Shirley went to work as a young woman at Will Rogers Airport during WWII helping to maintain military aircraft in a civilian capacity. Shirley later met and married William Joseph Pfrehm on December 26, 1944 in Norman, Oklahoma. The couple raised their two children in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma in the Catholic faith. During her time in Oklahoma City she worked for Tinker Air Force Base then for the F.F.A. (Federal Aviation Administration) then finally worked for 32 years as a branch supervisor for the I.R.S. (Internal Revenue Service). The couple moved to Seminole in June of 1972. Survivors include one daughter, Sharyn Ann (Pfrehm) Waite of Guthrie, Oklahoma; one son, Paul Pfrehm of Seminole, Oklahoma; four grandchildren, Alyssia Courtright of Edmond, Oklahoma, Bonnie Perry of Galt, California, Leslie Shubert of Peidmont, Oklahoma and Eric Pfrehm of Ardmore, Oklahoma; seven great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and a host of other family and dear friends. Shirley is preceded in death by her father, Alvin Justin Byram; her mother, Lola W. (White) Byram; her husband, William Joseph Pfrehm who died August 14, 1998; and by one son-in-law, Richard Henry Waite who died November 18, 2007. A graveside service is scheduled for 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 16, 2011 at Little Cemetery and a memorial service will follow at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole at 11:30 a.m., that same morning. Chaplain Kevin Fprum will officiate the service. Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.
