Sherman Otis Whitley, 78, longtime Seminole resident died Sunday, April 14, 2013 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Sherman was born May 21, 1934 in Milfay, Oklahoma to Cecil and Sadie (Price) Whitley. Sherman moved to Seminole 40 years ago from Phoenix, Arizona. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Seminole. Sherman owned and operated Whitley and Son’s Janitorial Service for many years. Sherman married Gladys Billie Wallace on February 26, 1954 in Wewoka, Oklahoma. Sherman is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Gladys Billie Whitley of the home; three sons, David Whitley and Kenneth Whitley both of Seminole, Oklahoma and Jimmy Whitley of Brazil; two sisters Nellie Patterson of Noble, Oklahoma and Freda Williams of Norman, Oklahoma.  Sherman is also survived by his grandchildren; Billie and Jackie Gamble, Jamie and Saul Vazquez, Dava and Steve Quisenberry, Jennifer Woods, Chris Whitley, David Whitley, Jr., Kimberly Whitley, Stephanie Whitley, Janis Whitley, Charis Whitley and James Whitley; his great-grandchildren Brooke Gamble, Migel Vazquez, Jaycee Gamble, Olivia Vazquez, Brianna Woods, Bradyn Woods, Brice Woods, Halle Quisenberry, Jake Quisenberry, and his longtime friend Tony Womack of Seminole, Oklahoma. His parents; brothers Herman and Cecil Whitley, sister Lila Roberts and his son Keith Whitley preceded him in death. Funeral services for Sherman will be 10: 00 A.M., Friday, April 19, 2013, at the First Baptist Church in Seminole, Oklahoma with Rev. Marvin Kehl officiating. Burial will be at Tate Mountain Cemetery Southwest of Wewoka, Oklahoma. Casket bearers will be David Otis Whitley, Jr., Chris Whitley, Jackie Gamble, Steve Quisenberry, Saul Vazquez, and Migel Vazquez. Honorary bearers will be Kenny Penuel, Gary Lankford, Bradyn Woods and Bryce Woods. Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.
