Ruth Bryant

Virgie Ruth (Carroll) Bryant, 102 year old longtime Seminole, Oklahoma resident, passed from this life on Tuesday, August 30, 2016 in Seminole surrounded by her loving family.  Ruth was born December 4, 1913 in Bakersfield, Missouri to parents, Maude Bell (Payne) Carroll and Adam Carroll.  Ruth was a member of the First Baptist Church in Seminole for 82 years.  She had received the “Seminole Green Thumb Award,” and had traveled the world.  During her 102 years of life she had seen the advent of cars, space travel, radio, television, and computers. Ruth has seen the horrors man can inflict on man from world wars to terrorist attacks. She experienced WWI, WWII, the great depression and man on the moon.  Through her strong will, hard work and dedication to her family, Ruth was truly a virtuous woman.  She worked as a waitress, shoe sales woman, she raised chickens and worked as a hairdresser until she was 88 years old, not because she had to, it was that she wanted to. Survivors include one son, Frank “Duke” Bryant of Shawnee, Oklahoma. Two daughters, Carolee Hendricks of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Dorothy Maud Eversole of Seminole, Oklahoma. Nine grandchildren, Teresa Dorsett, Tommy Hendricks, Billy Montin, Susan Anderson, Robin Tyer, Kathy Ward, Kellye Swearingen, Charles Eversole and Kristi Anderson, twenty four great-grandchildren and eleven great-great-grandchildren.  She is also survived by a host of other family and dear friends. Ruth is preceded in death by her parents, by her husband Charles Clayton “Duke” Bryant who died in 1950. By one daughter, Julia Ann Montin, by one grandson, Kent Bryant, by two sons-in-law, Jimmie Eversole and Tommy Hendricks, by one great-grandson, Joshua Anderson, and by one brother, Charles Carroll, and by two sisters, Imogene Coskery and Ruby Jo . A Celebration of Ruth’s life will be held 2:00 p.m., Saturday, September 3, 2016 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole, Oklahoma with Rev. Charles Taylor officiating the service.  Interment will follow at Little Cemetery located north of Seminole on Hwy. 377. Casket Bearers will be: Charles Eversole, Little Charles Eversole, Charles Ward, Justin Montin, Rood Blanchard, Robbie Hindman and Keith Williamson.
