Ruby Mae (Harjo) Impson, age 83 and a former resident of Konawa, Oklahoma, passed away at Rose Manor Nursing Center in Shawnee, Oklahoma. A Wake service is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday, July 26, 2018 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Konawa. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. Friday, July 27, 2018 at the Chapel, and burial will follow at Vamoosa Cemetery. Rev. Arthur Carpitcher and Rev. Jimsey Harjo will officiate. Casket bearers are Jeremy Bounds, Shane Impson, Lamarr Crawford, Ronnie Lunsford, Christopher E. Impson, Colby Impson, Chad Huckleberry, Clifton Grove, and Braiden Fletcher. The grandsons will serve as Honorary bearers. Ruby was born in Lawton, Oklahoma to Lewis Harjo and Lillian (Morgan) Walters. She attended Konawa schools until she moved to Haskell Indian School in Lawerance, Kansas in 1949. She graduated high school in 1951, and she began nursing classes on October 5, 1955. She married Finis Ewing Impson on November 25, 1966 in Konawa, and they moved to Lawton. She worked at Commanche County Memorial Hospital in Lawton from 1967 until 1975. Ruby moved back to Konawa in 1979 where she attended Byng Nursing School. She started work at Carl Albert Indian Facility and stayed until retirement in 1987. Ruby loved watching the television show, Family Feud, and she loved spending her last few years with the nursing home ladies playing Bingo and singing in their choir. She is survived by two sons, Paul Impson and wife, Kim of Gerty, Oklahoma, and Calvin W. Harjo of Konawa; one daughter, Cyndi George of Konawa; eight grandchildren, Shane and Janya Impson, Lillian George, Lydia (George) Ockert, Catrina Harjo, Casey Harjo, Colby Impson, Christopher Impson, and Mariah Harjo; and eleven great grandchildren, Christopher Impson, Frankie Impson, Janlee Impson, Avery Ockert, Liam Ockert, Callista Harrison, Deauntay Harrison, Kylee Harjo, Dominique Harjo, Dakota Harjo, and Isabella Harjo; and a host of cousins, neices, and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Finis Impson; one sister, Sophia Lena Hernandez; and step-father, Willie Walters.
