Roland Van Pelt

Roland V. “ Rollie” Van Pelt, 74, former Seminole Resident now of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma died March 18, 2011 at Integris Southwest Medical Center in Oklahoma City. He was born October 17, 1936 to Vernal Otis and Virginia L. (Saul) Van Pelt in Detroit, Michigan. Mr. Van Pelt was a self-employed carpenter who had lived in Seminole from 1975 to 1983 before moving to Oklahoma City. He worked hard all his life, always worrying about everybody else. He was a very caring, compassionate, giving person, kindhearted, and never met a stranger. He loved the outdoors, fishing and restoring old cars. He his survived by his Mother, Virginia L. Bush of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, his sons Steve Caruso of El Reno, Oklahoma, Alan Van Pelt of Munsy, Pennsylvania, and step-son Chuck Fuller of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and his daughters Becky Frady of Mustang, Oklahoma, Barbie Anderson of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Laura Buchholz of Defiance, Ohio, Cheryl Grover of Queen Anne County, Maryland and Pam Hamrick-Thurmont of Maryland. He is also survived by a brother Richard Van Pelt of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, three sisters Lavern Gobel of Edgerton, Ohio, Delores Yonker of Dayton, Ohio and Carol Van Pelt of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and twelve grandchildren and three great-grandchildren and his beloved dog  “ Spooky”. A son Matt Van Pelt in 2009 and his father Vernal Van Pelt preceded him in death. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, March 22, 2011 at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Carl Whitfield officiating. Burial will follow at Little Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Matthew, Michael and Mitchell Anderson, Dale Hickman, Heath Leverton, Quinton Meeks, Dr. Lee Rau and Justin Goodwin. Honorary bearers will be James Taylor, Steve Anderson and Seth Freeman. Services are under the direction of Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.
