Roger Van Harrod , age 89 and a long-time resident of Konawa, Oklahoma passed away on February 8, 2024 at the Veteran Hospital in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.
Funeral services are scheduled for 1:00 p.m. Thursday, February 15, 2024 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Konawa, Oklahoma. Rev. Chad Large will officiate, and burial will follow at Vamoosa Cemetery. Casket bearers are Nathan Walker, Wyatt Harrod, Tristin Lackey, Welch Walker, John King, Terrell Griffin, Doug Cheek, and Tony Mooney. Honorary bearers are Rube Griffin, Jerry McCraw, Frank Carpenter, Craig Harrod, and Darren Oliphant. The family will receive guests from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. Wednesday night at the funeral home.
Roger was born June 2, 1934 in Sasakwa to Allen Harrod and Savilla "Cricket" (Houston) Harrod. He worked as an oilfield pumper and retired from Chevron Oil Company. He proudly served in the army during the Korean War from December 1952 until December, 1955. He married Nancy May Baldwin April 8, 1967 in Ada, Oklahoma. Roger loved fishing, watching western movies, traveling, attending western swing events, and especially listening to Bob Wills music.
He is survived by two sons, Roger Harrod and wife, Melony of Edmond, Oklahoma, and Steven Harrod and wife, Markae of Ada, Oklahoma; two daughters, Kim Jackson of Konawa, Oklahoma, and Ramona Cooper of Colorado; three sisters, Allene Girton of Edmond, Oklahoma, Sherry Warwick and husband, Dave of Chandler, Oklahoma and Susan Blanton of Chandler, Oklahoma; eight grandchildren, Nathan and Mary, Krysten and Tristin, Wyatt, Kyra, Tracelyn, Emerlyn, Carter and Colten; and one great grandchild, Welch; and numerous other family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Allen and Cricket Harrod; his wife, Nancy Harrod on April 1, 2023; one sister, Bennie Tipton, and one brother, Wesley Harrod.
