Roberta Virginia (Lane) Brooks

Roberta Virginia (Lane) Brooks, age 81, passed away on February 17, 2022, at her home in Wewoka, Oklahoma. She was born August 27, 1940, in Lamar, Oklahoma to Delbert Lane and Estelle Mayfield (Ponder) Lane. She graduated from Pleasant Grove High School in 1958. She loved playing basketball throughout her school years. Roberta married Avery Leon Brooks on August 2, 1958, in Los Angeles, California. Leon passed away at the age of 71 on June 19, 2010.

Roberta was a longtime Maud, Oklahoma resident and ran a beauty salon behind her home for many years. She also worked for Dolly Madison Bakery for several years. She loved gardening, bird watching, feeding wildlife, going to the casino and cooking. She made the best fried chicken with all the fixings and the most delicious stuffing and pecan pie for Thanksgiving.

Left to cherish Roberta’s memory are her children; Gary Brooks, Sherry Akins and her husband Tim, Karen Foster and Leanne Brooks, her brother; Eddie Lane and his wife Pat, sisters: Nettie Alberts and Carolyn Hanks and her husband Mike, numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren and many other family members and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brother Paul Lane and many other loved ones.

There will be a private family viewing from 8:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, February 18, 2022, at Swearingen Funeral Home in Seminole, Oklahoma.
