Robert Kernell, Sr., 87 year-old, lifelong Seminole resident passed from this life Wednesday, October 27, 2010 in Shawnee, Oklahoma. He was born December 11, 1922 in Rosco, Oklahoma (South of Seminole) to parents Lizzie (Johnson) Kernell and John Kernell. Robert attended Bowlegs High School and later served in the United States Army during World War II where he earned a good conduct medal, World War II Victory Ribbon, and the European, African, Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon. He married Alice Brown on November 14, 1948 in Seminole, Oklahoma. Robert worked as a farmer and as an ordained Minister. He was Pastor of Mekusukey Baptist Church in Seminole County, Oklahoma. Robert was also a proud member of the Seminole Nation (Nurcup/Harjo Band). Survivors include his wife of almost 62 years, Alice (Brown) Kernell of the home; one daughter, Debbie Johnson of Bowlegs, Oklahoma; one granddaughter, Michelle and her husband Hershel Hamilton of Ada, Oklahoma; three great-grandchildren, Daniel, Caitlin and Ryan Hamilton all of Ada, Oklahoma; he is also survived by a host of other family and dear friends. Robert is preceded in death by his parents; one son, Robert Kernell, Jr. who died in 1993; two brothers, Eugene Kernell and Simon Kernell; four sisters, Leister Fife, Helen Colbert, Lula Jones and Bessie Walker. Wake services are scheduled for 6:00 p.m., Friday, October 29, 2010 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole, Oklahoma with Ed Jimboy officiating. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m., Saturday, October 30, 2010 at Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Seminole, Oklahoma with Rev. Dorsey Nero and Rev. George Harjocee officiating. Interment will follow at the Brown Family Cemetery in Bowlegs, Oklahoma. The Seminole Nation Honor Guard will provide full military honors. Casket Bearers will be: Robert Colbert, Jr. – Lewis Fife – Richard Jones – Michael Narcomey – Hershel Hamilton and Roger Kernell. Honorary Bearers will be: Glenn Kernell – A.J.
