Robert Jones

Robert Howard Jones, Konawa area resident, passed away April 10, 2007, at VA Medical Center in Oklahoma City at the age of 64. He was born on January 2, 1943 in El Paso, TX to Robert Walton Jones & Esther Mae "Pill" (Longan) Jones. He enlisted in the military in 1963 and served in the US Navy, National Guard and later received an honorable discharge from the US Army on Nov. 4, 1976. Robert served during the Vietnam War in Vietnam, Korea and Germany. He was wounded in action and received the Purple Heart. He also received several other medals and ribbons including the Vietnam Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, Combat Infantryman Badge and Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Palm, among others. He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans andrnthe Black Horse Regiment of the 11th Armored Cavalry's Veterans of Vietnam and Cambodia.rnRobert married Donna (Compston) Conger on May 26, 2002 in Mannford, OK. They attended the First United Methodist Church in Konawa. rnHe is survived by his wife, Donna of the home; two step-daughters, Jeannie Cox and her husband Richard of Mannford, and Marie Prewett and her husband Kelly of Konawa; one brother, David Lee Jones and his wife Anita of Norman; two sisters, Mary Angelia Jones of Tulsa and Kathryn Thompson and her husband Lawrence of Gravette, AR; grandchildren, Richie Cox, Brittany Cox, Amanda Prewett, Keelan Prewett, Jared Prewett and Braden Prewett and also a host of other family and friends.rnHe was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, John Clifton Jones.rnGraveside services with full military honors will be held on Friday, April 13, 2007 at 10:00 A.M. at Vamoosa Cemetery, outside of Konawa, with Pastor Pam Shirk officiating.
