Watson Burgess, age 85, passed away on Saturday, September 20, 2008, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.rnrnA Wake service will be held at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 23rd at the Swearingen Funeral Home Chapel in Konawa, OK. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 24th at the Konawa Chapel. Rev. Dennis Traxler and John Millican will officiate. Pallbearers are grandchildren, Christopher Baker, Billy Archer, Franklin West, Michael Burgess, Ricky Burgess, Jr., and Jason Burgess. Honorary Pallbearers are great grandchildren, Austen Burgess, Brandon West, Madden West, Camron Archer, and Robert Archer, nephews, great nephews, and fellow rodeo friends.rnrnBobby was born on August 16, 1923, in Konawa, Oklahoma, to Harper Burgess and Anna (Barnett) Burgess. He married Ellen Larney on May 11, 1946, in Sasakwa, OK. He graduated Vamoosa High School in 1943, and he joined the United States Coast Guard. He earned an Associates of Applied Science from Colorado. Bobby was a State certified and Veteran certified counselor for the Alcohol and Drug Abuse and the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. He was recognized as an outstanding counselor for his service in chemical dependency in 1988. He was a member of the Seminole Indian Baptist Church.tttrnrnHe is survived by his wife, Ellen Burgess of the home; one son, Ricky Burgess of Konawa, OK.; two daughters, Cora Osborne of Konawa, OK., and Barbara West of Tecumseh, OK.; ten grandchildren, eleven great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.rnrnHe was preceded in death by his parents, Harper and Anna Burgess; one son, Bobby Burgess; one daughter, Lori Millican; three brothers, and two sisters.
